Special Baby Moses

Beforehand Read Exodus 1-2:10

Memory Verse:

  • For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, to do the good things He planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10)
Crafts:
Option 1- Baby Moses Handprints/Memory Verse
    • Baby Moses PDF Scroll down till you See "Baby Moses Craft." Under the title, it should have a link for a PDF. Print enough of the pdf for each member of the class.
      • Cut out the PDF picture. Have the kids color Baby Moses. Glue Baby Moses onto a blue sheet of construction paper.
      • You'll need construction paper in brown and green for the reeds. Have the kids trace their hands and cut them out of the construction paper. Glue only the wrist part of the hand down
      • Write the Memory verse on the Reeds over Baby Moses.
Option Two- Moses and Miriam
Go to this Site and print the Templates. Follow the instructions.

Snack: Moses in the Basket
What you'll need: ice cream bowl, pudding, teddy grahams.
  • Put pudding in the ice cream bowls and put a teddy graham cracker on top of the pudding. The ice cream bowl represents the reeds, the pudding represents bedding, and the teddy represents Moses.
  • HERE is a link for Homemade Pudding if you want to use it.
Story: Exodus 1-2:10
Retell the story from Memory. Be sure to answer these questions:
  • Was the Pharaoh in Exodus 1 the same as the Pharaoh that Joseph was serving under?
  • Why was the new King afraid of the Israelites?
  • What did Pharaoh do to weaken the Israelites?
  • Pharaoh wanted all the newborn baby boys to be thrown into the Nile River. Moses was a newborn baby boy, what did Moses' mom do instead?
  • When Moses' Mom could no longer hide him, what did she do instead?
  • Who was watching from the river bank to see what would happen to Moses?
  • Who found Moses?
  • Who ended up taking care of Moses until Pharaoh's Daughter adopted him?
It's amazing how God was in the little details. He had a Great Big Plan for Moses' life, and it started before Moses was born. God has a Great Big Plan for our life too, it started before we were born. He chose our parents to be our parents, He chose the time we would live in, Where we would live, He took care of all the little details that would prepare us for the great things in our future. God is a Great God! He is in Control even when things are scary and uncertain!

Memory Verse Games
  • Act it out.
    • Brainstorm motions with the students to match their memory verse. When children learn movements they are less likely to “lose it” from their memory.
  • Post It Cover Up
    • For this activity write the memory verse on the front board of the classroom. Practice reading it once together and then use post-it notes to cover up one of the words. Then, practice reading the verse again followed by covering up a second word with post-it notes. Continue this pattern until the entire verse is covered and the children are saying the verse from memory. This is an interesting spin on traditional drilling of a verse by repetition. You could also reverse the game beginning with some words covered and have children guess the missing words.
  • Find, Assemble, and Read
    • Put each word from the verse onto separate sheets of paper. Hide them around and have the kids find the words. Once the kids have found the words, congregate at a meeting spot and assemble the sentence and read them.
  • Pudding Words
    • Smear pudding on cookie sheets. Using their fingers, have the kids write the memory verse in the pudding.
  • Pudding Pictures
    • Smear pudding on cookie sheets. Using their fingers, have the kids draw what they learned from the lesson in the pudding.

True Forgiveness

Beforehand read Genesis 45:25-46:7 and Genesis 50:14-21

Memory Verse:

  • "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them." Romans 8:28
Craft Ideas:
Instead of the hand outline shown in this picture, replace it with a cross. Mold a toilet paper roll into the shape of a heart and let them paint hearts around the cross like it's a tree.

Since we are talking about Joseph truly forgiving his brothers, we can talk about how Jesus forgives us.

Snacks- Two Options
Unforgiveness- Have a gross snack available (black licorice or any other very unpopular snack).
Forgiveness- Have a snack all kids love (candy, cookies, etc)
Explain that if we choose to not forgive someone, the prize (snack) is not good, not satisfying, and it doesn't make God happy. If we choose forgiveness, the prize (snack) is good, satisfying, and it makes God very happy.

Story:
Read/Retell Genesis 45:25-46:7 and Genesis 50:14-21
  • Tell about how God forgives us when we do things that hurt his feelings (lying, taking things that are not ours, etc.)
  • Share an instance where you forgave someone, hot it made you feel, and how forgiveness showed God's love to that person.
Memory Verse Games:
  • I could not find the original source of this picture, but apparently you can make this using a white crayon and water colors. It would be a fun way to display the memory verse!

• What if you actually became what you wanted to be when you grew up?

Far From His Dreams

Beforehand Read Genesis 39

Memory Verse:
"God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another." 1 Peter 4:10

Crafts:
  • Option 1- Decorate a bird house.
    • Make sure to share that if there is no way for the bird to get in and out freely, it's a cage-- or a prison.
  • Option 2- Bird Cage Lanterns (picture)

A Snack Fit for a Prisoner:
Snack Idea-- Bread and Butter with water or juice to drink!
  • You can take these ideas and make them a bit tastier. You can do cupcakes with fun frosting or donuts with a glaze.
Questions:
  1. Have you ever told a lie to get someone in trouble?
  2. Has someone ever told a lie about you to get you in trouble?
This is what happened to Joseph. He was sold as a slave and went to work for a guy named Potiphar. Potiphar was captain of the guard for Pharaoh, the King of Egypt. While he worked in Potiphar's home, God's favor was on Joseph so that everything he touched was successful. The Bible says Joseph succeeded in all he did. No matter where we are in life, we should always try our best, we should do our chores as if we are doing it for God himself.

One day, someone told a lie to cover up their own mistake, but they did it with the intention of getting Joseph in BIG trouble. As a result, Joseph was thrown in prison. The Bible says, "But the Lord was with Joseph in the prison and showed him His faithful love. And the Lord made Joseph a favorite with the prison warden. Before long, the warden put Joseph in charge of the other prisoners and over everything that happened in the prison. The warden had no more worries because Joseph took care of everything. The Lord was with him and caused everything he did to succeed." (Genesis 39:21-23).
